Antispeciesist researcher & filmmaker
Aron Nor is an independent researcher and self-taught filmmaker-artivist whose work and projects address various political and philosophical questions regarding the complex Human-Animal identities, roles, and relations that take shape in society.
Aron is co-founder of the just wondering... project where he produces, researches, writes, animates, edits and directs short films and hybrid animated essays on antispeciesism, posthumanism, social and environmental justice. In parallel, he researches and writes about the relations between humans and street dogs in Romania on gând vagabond... to imagine other ways of coexisting with them.
The animated video-essays he has been working on since 2016 can be found freely on Youtube out of a desire to make knowledge accessible. They have also been screened at several film festivals, audio-visual screenings and exhibitions. His short film, "we fly, we crawl, we swim" has won numerous awards, and his articles have been published in several magazines and profile journals.
Aron has always maintained a degree of anonymity in what he does for ideological and personal reasons. He avoids having a prominent public presence, often using pseudonyms, hybrid projects, and various languages to turn his anxieties into ways of expressing himself. He believes and is committed to open access projects and the production of interdisciplinary knowledge that is, as much as possible, without barriers, restrictions, or costs of any kind. His productions often have a visual side, developed in close collaboration with the illustrator Mina Mimosa and influenced by his past work as an illustrator and graphic designer (under another name), incorporating a sociological insight gained from numerous interactions and joint projects with the writer Maria Martelli. His work is often driven by philosophical questions that trouble him, with a curiosity towards ontological and epistemological explorations, although he has not studied philosophy in an institutional setting and is self-taught. He is vegan, disabled, and neurodivergent, and he currently lives in Hunedoara, Romania, with his partner, two dogs, and two cats.
